What is Junior Achievement?
Junior Achievement of North Florida is affiliated with JA Worldwide TM, the world's largest organization dedicated to educating young people about business, economics, and free enterprise.
Purpose
JA educates and inspires young people to value free enterprise, business, and economics to improve the quality of their lives.
Mission
"To inspire and prepare young people to succeed in the global economy."
Programs
JA programs span grades K-12, and focus on seven key content areas: business, citizenship, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics/character, financial literacy, and career development. Junior Achievement of North Florida serves more than 22,000 students each year in North Florida. JA reaches more than seven millions students annually worldwide.
A Brief History
Junior Achievement was originally founded in 1919 by Theodore Vail, president of American Telephone & Telegraph; Horace Moses, president of Strathmore Paper Co.; and Senator Murray Crane of Massachusetts and its first program, JA Company Program, was offered to high school students on an after-school basis.
JA of North Florida was chartered in 1963 and during their 45-year history, has reached more than 300,000 students. Junior Achievement of North Florida is a 501(c)(3) that is funded through contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations, and from special events. Government support is limited to 10% of the annual operating budget and while it does not receive funds from United Way of Northeast Florida, Inc., it can be designated as a United Way recipient by individual contributors.
